Arrival in NYC

Well, we got up at 3:30 in the morning to catch a 6:10 flight out of Canberra. We got a limo so that we would be sure to be picked up. (We don't count on taxis early in the early morning in Canberra!) Our flight from Canberra to Sydney was fine.

Our flight from Sydney to LA was tedious as usual, but it was difficult to get any sleep as we had crying infants around us. Linda also had trouble getting comfortable with her seating. Another prime aggravation was that Linda wanted diet coke, not zero which was all that QANTAS stocked. The queues to clear customs at LAX were massive, but those delays didn't matter since our plane to take us to NY was from Brisbane which was delayed as well. We arrived at NY about 45 minutes late which was aggravated by a very slow delivery of checked baggage.

Linda and Hilary then parted ways from myself as one of Hilary's friends picked them up as house quests. I took the airtrain to the Jamaican circle station to get the free shuttle bus to my hotel and waited about an hour for the shuttle bus and didn't get to the hotel until about 8:30PM. It turns out that the hotel is in the middle of a run down neighborhood, so I wasn't game to wander around to find a place to eat. Instead I ordered something in from one of the local eateries and got delivery at about 10PM. I ate, and then retired after a long two days compressed into 1 (because of the date line crossing).
